Oct. 5 (Bloomberg) -- The FTSE 100 Index pared losses, led by mining companies Rio Tinto Group and BHP Billiton Plc.
The FTSE 100 fell 0.26, or less than 0.1 percent, to 4,988.44 at 8:27 a.m. in London.
Rio gained 2.7 percent to 2,572.5 pence. BHP added 1.3 percent to 1,647.5 pence.
