July 31 (Bloomberg) -- The U.K.'s benchmark stock index, the FTSE 100, rose 0.34 percent at 8:05 a.m.
The index of 102 stocks traded on the London Stock Exchange rose 18.20 to 5,438.90. Among the stocks in the index, 45 rose, 53 fell and 4 were unchanged.
Gains in the FTSE 100 were led by Bp Plc (Bp/ Ln), Royal Dutch Shell Plc (Rdsa Ln) and Hbos Plc (Hbos Ln). About 28.25 million shares traded in the FTSE 100.
