Taiwan stocks open lower, but Quanta gains

TAIPEI: Taiwan stocks opened down 0.90 per cent on Tuesday, pulling back from a one-day rise after a sell-off last week, as PC shares fell even after the top two contract notebook makers forecast strong third-quarter growth.

The main TAIEX share index was 66.17 points lower at the open at 7,274.94, giving back some of a 1.6 per cent gain from Monday.

The computer and peripherals sub-index was down 0.72 per cent, but Quanta, the top contract notebook maker, was up 0.44 per cent.
