FRANKFURT, Oct 31 (Reuters) - European stocks extended losses in morning trade on Friday, as weaker crude prices weighed on energy stocks and index heavyewight HSBC (HSBA.L: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) fell after a broker downgrade.
At 0925 GMT, the pan-European FTSEurofirst 300 index was 1 percent lower at 894.49 points after pushing as high as 908.06 earlier.
BP (BP.L: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) lost 1.9 percent, Royal Dutch Shell (RDSa.AS: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) fell 2.2 percent and Total (TOTF.PA: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) shed 1.9 percent, while HSBC sank nearly 6 percent.
The telecommunications sector was also down after BT Group (BT.L: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) slumped more than 20 percent after warning it would miss earnings forecast for its second quarter due to a poor performance of its Global Services unit. (Reporting by Tyler Sitte)
