Nov. 14 (Bloomberg) -- Valero Energy Corp., the largest U.S. oil refiner, said a flare compressor associated with a crude unit ``tripped'' at its Delaware City refinery, resulting in the release of sulfur dioxide.
An unknown quantity of the vapor was released into the air yesterday morning, according to a filing with the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control.
The state regulatory agency said it considers the release to be ``hazardous at this time'' and is investigating the cause of the incident.
The refinery can process 190,200 barrels of oil a day, according to the U.S. Energy Department.
