Japanese Yen, Korean Won, Taiwan Dollar: Asia Currency Preview

Oct. 2 (Bloomberg) -- The following events and economic reports may influence trading in Asian currencies today. Markets in China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Pakistan will be closed. Exchange rates are from the previous session.

Japanese yen: The Finance Ministry releases weekly portfolio flows data at 8:50 a.m. in Tokyo.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Takeo Kawamura will hold briefings at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Vice Finance Minister Kazuyuki Sugimoto is scheduled to give a press conference at 5 p.m.

The yen traded at 105.79 at 7:11 a.m. in Sydney.


South Korean won: The Bank of Korea will report foreign- exchange reserves for September at 6 a.m. in Seoul. The nation's reserves fell for a fifth month to $243.2 billion in August from $247.52 in July.

The won traded at 1,187.40.

Taiwan dollar: The central bank will report foreign- exchange reserves for September tomorrow. Taiwan's reserves fell to $282.09 billion in August from $290.9 billion the previous month.

The Taiwan dollar traded at NT$32.029.

Thai baht: The central bank will tomorrow report foreign- exchange reserves for last week. Reserves grew to $101.5 billion in the week ended Sept. 19 from $101.4 billion the previous week.

The baht was at 33.99.
