Nov. 18 (Bloomberg) -- Energex Ltd., the electricity distributor in Australia's Queensland state, said it may take until tomorrow before all supplies are restored to about 230,000 homes and businesses that were cut off in storms on Nov. 16.
Power has been restored to more than 215,000 homes and businesses in the state's southeast, with about 12,000 still to be reconnected as at 4:15 a.m. today, Energex said in a statement on its Web site.
The northwestern suburbs of the state capital of Brisbane were worst affected by the storms, which killed one person and were described by Energex as the most damaging in 25 years. Uprooted trees and falling branches ripped more than 33 kilometers (21 miles) of power lines from poles and roofing iron torn from homes was thrown into the 33,000 volt network.
``While the electricity supply has been restored to 90 percent of those who were affected, the worst-affected areas may be without power for up to another 48 hours,'' Energex said in a separate statement late yesterday.
