Yen, Taiwan's Dollar, Sri Lankan Rupee: Asia Currency Preview

Aug. 20 (Bloomberg) -- The following events and economic reports may influence trading in Asian currencies today.

Exchange rates are from the previous session.

Japanese yen: The Bank of Japan will release its monthly report of recent economic and financial developments at 2 p.m.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Nobutaka Machimura will hold a briefing at 11 a.m.

The yen was at 109.76 a dollar as of 7:55 a.m. in New York.

Taiwan dollar: The current-account surplus narrowed to $6.5 billion in the second quarter from $8.66 billion in the previous three months, economists said in a Bloomberg News survey before the central bank reports the data today.

The local dollar was at NT$31.389.

Sri Lankan rupee: The central bank will maintain its repurchase rate at 10.5 percent for an 18th straight meeting today, according to all 11 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg News. The decision is due at 7:30 a.m. in Colombo.

The currency was at 107.885.
